(Eagle News) — A state of disaster has been declared over four regions — Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Western Visayas and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao — due to “paeng.”

President Bongbong Marcos made the statement based on Proclamation #84.

The state of emergency will remain in effect for six months unless lifted by the President.

In making the statement, the President noted “loss of life, destruction of property, damage to agriculture and critical infrastructure, and disruption to the resources and livelihoods and normal way of life of the population.”

With the declaration, the release of disaster relief funds can now be accelerated.

The declaration also ensures that prices for everyday goods in the disaster areas are controlled.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said 121 deaths due to “paeng” have been reported so far.
