President Bongbong Marcos honors SAF 44

(Eagle News) — President Bongbong Marcos paid tribute to the 44 members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force who were killed in a 2015 mission to capture Malaysian bomber Zulkifli Bin Hir aka Marwan in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

In a statement, the President said their heroism “will always inspire us as we continue to protect and serve our people.”

“We honor the 44 brave Special Action Force officers who made the ultimate sacrifice on duty,” he said.

The SAF was among a group ambushed by members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and local armed groups, who had been alerted by gunfire when the SAF made the arrest.

Findings from a PNP investigative committee released weeks after the ambush said Marwan was killed during the operation by the 84th Special Action Company.

In 2017, then-President Rodrigo Duterte signed Proclamation #164 declaring January 25 of each year to be the National Day of Remembrance for the SAF 44.
